Help Wanted
Many thanks to those people
that have offered their help. A few areas are still without helpers - so keep
those offers coming in please!
I’m always looking for eager,
reliable people to help with the running of SISLETS….
1. People to help on market
day – mainly organising trestles, clean-up, talking with new enquiries about
LETS.
2. People with computer
skills to help with various tasks
3. People to help with the
mail-out – collating newsletter, enveloping, etc. (Tentative dates - day-time
on a Wednesday – 23 May, 25 July, 26 September & 21 November).
4. Someone to organise the
mailing list and address labels for the mail-out.
5. Someone to help with
publicity.
6. Someone to help organise
more activities in SISLETS.
Contact Pam 8374 2531 email: theshoppe@chariot.net.au if
interested. Your suggestions/ideas on any of the above are also welcome.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you,
Many, many thanks to the people
in SISLETS that have taken on doing their own accounting and working with the
new on-line accounting system – including members that do not have computers
and enlisted other members to do their accounting for them. It’s a difficult
thing to implement change when the system as been the same for many years. You
have made the job of bringing in the new accounting system so much easier. Pam (Co-ordinator)

Managing Your On-Line
Account
It’s great to see SISLETS members using the new system. Feedback from members about the new system
and issues related to its use will be covered in the Newsletter. If you have
something you want to say about on-line account management (of your account or
another member’s) please send to SISLETS for discussion:
CES On-Line System Update
Accounting Charges: Some
members are managing the accounts (i.e. entering transactions, inputting
‘Offers’ and ‘Wants’) for members who do not have computer access. Members offering this service are entitled to
charge a fee. The current (suggested)
rate is: 8 units per month for entering transactions and 15 units an hour for
setting up and maintaining ‘Offers’ and ‘Wants’ for 12 months. Some members may prefer not to charge a fee
for this service but managing an on-line account is a service just like any
other LETS transaction. The other costs
related to this are printing accounts and documents from the site for members
and postal costs (if applicable). It is feasible that a dollar charge apply for
this service negotiable between the two parties. If you have any further
comment on this issue please send it in for discussion.
Account
Management: The following members have
offered their services for managing member’s accounts: Julie SISA0236 -
Milton SISA0024 - Katy SISA0262
- Monte SISA0264 – Lay Lee SISA0252.
Please check SISLETS Membership
List for contact details.
Check Your
Entries: Please
regularly check your statement to ensure all entries on your account are
correct. Members are now responsible for doing their own accounting. Mistakes
can occur. Transaction input is no longer regulated by one person overseeing
the accounting (as was the case in the previous accounting system). Please report any accounting irregularities
to SISLETS@gmail.com
Accessing Other Systems: Both NE LETS and Salisbury
LETS are accessible via the CES system. Use the ‘Exchange’ box to change
systems. When you enter the online site you automatically open into your own
system or exchange (i.e. SISLETS). It is necessary to change the ‘exchange’
name to be able to access either NE or Sal LETS – whether it be their member
contact details, to do a transaction with a NE or Sal member or access their
offers and wants.

Members
Forum
The Member’s Forum was a very popular addition to last Newsletter. Many
people commented how interesting it was to hear about other people in the
group. So lets continue the momentum and have a few more:
Introducing: Adrian Crawford SISA0185
Registered nurse, Registered midwife (delivered 19
babies), Reiki master and teacher (doing Reiki since 1986), writer, director,
actor, editor, scriptwriting tutor.
Didn’t exactly set out to be rather diverse!
Have been in various LETS groups over the years
including Adelaide LETS, Hills LETS, SA LETS, North East LETS and now SIS LETS.
Offered Reiki of course, both as courses (can offer
for two thirds cash, one third LETS, any less and the tax man taketh as its all
considered taxable income), and sessions, done house clearings, intuitive
massage amongst other things. Have used LETS services for any number of things
that I am not as skilled in or do not have the knowledge for (or unable to do
on myself). Such as clothes mending, computer software issues, massage, Nunga
consultancy and recently a chest of drawers. LETS is great. Highly recommended.
What else to add? I have travelled to 20 countries
over the years and been around most of Australia. My first big trip was coming
out to Australia age 8, through the Suez Canal (I remember both funny and one
scary incident). Have lived in London six months and had three trips to South
East Asia – a place I never anticipated going to! My first trip was a week all
expenses paid and staying at only the best of mansions because my producer
wanted me to write her a mini biography (that involved a bit of time travel!).
My second was because my then girlfriend (a now LETS member, exceedingly
seasoned traveller and friend), wanted to go train travelling there again. I’ve
been to 8 South East Asian countries all told and none by tour. This said, I
still don’t consider myself a truly seasoned traveller.
This year has started full of promise. I overhauled
an inspirational fable to novella length. Can avail it to LETS members on
request. From 10 to adult. One 11 year old told me the earlier version was her
"second favourite story. Second only to Harry Potter." That’s high praise
indeed! This year, I have my fingers crossed for a small but significant role
in a feature (offered by the director "subject to finance". I also
paid for an assessment of one of my two feature film scripts with a top script
producer, script editor who told me that "This is a really good story that
would make a really good film", then offered me some further guidance once
I overhauled it some more. This script keeps attracting allies. It was short
listed by the AFC for script development as a short feature, one of the
assessors fell in love with it and helped me add 40 pages to the script in 2
and a half weeks to present to the SAFC as a full feature. It missed out by one
place from script development money. And, then there is my short film I wrote
and which I will be directing in July. Another big leap again as we have been
warned by a professional that not only will it require exceptional performances
but a very good director to pull it off. Sigh… What is life without a few
challenges? My old professional script editor (different from the one just
mentioned), has told me after kindly script editing draft 11 that it is
"absolutely" of the calibre required for the major international
short film festivals. It is now Draft 27. Most of my actors have worked professionally
and some of my crew, including cameraman, are professionals. We are using
professional cameras. The aim? A semi-professional product.
So, that is a bit about me. Look forward to hearing
more about you.
Introducing: John Groves SISA0110.
About eleven years ago I heard about the LETS system.
It seemed to me to be a very good idea and I tried to join the Payneham LETS.
Since I neither worked nor lived in Payneham their rules said that I could not
join them, and although I did not then live in the south of Adelaide I joined
SISLETS.
I attended
several very successful markets, offering Reiki and body work, and buying
mostly food and plants. I also went to Hills markets, which were a big deal in
those days.
After a while I found out that the SIS units accounts
were being done by hand, and only rarely did members find out their balance. A
market could generate several hundred transactions, and there could be another
twenty or more between markets. Having some skill with computers, I volunteered
to do the accounts with a program I wrote for the job. This I continued to do
for years, until the demise of many Lets systems made it more reasonable to
have a central system for South Australia.
Another
organization I find very useful is the food co-op, who sell many things we need
regularly, and always high quality and at a good price. I particularly like the
idea of organic if possible, and Australian next, since so much supermarket
food is imported these days-Ah, McCain, never again-stir-fry vegetables
from China for heaven’s sake!
I have several
good friends from LETS, and have enjoyed a long series of massage exchanges
with LETS members from SIS and others.
About three years ago my wife and I moved to the
retirement village in Pasadena, and we attend most SIS markets, as we have not
far to go. Altogether, I must add that I have found the LETS experience to be
satisfying and rewarding.
Introducing: Trish SIS0242
Hello – my name is Trish. I was introduced to
SISLETS through my mother Thelma who you will usually see at the market with
me. Mum attended one of Pam’s vegetarian lunches. She told mum about the
bartering concept of the market and knew I’d be interested.
Mum resides at a nursing home called Charles
Young. She’s very happy there and does lots of craft work. She mixes well with the staff and residents
and often brings them back sauces and jams.
I’m a Men’s and Ladies’ hairdresser. I’m
married to my husband Gerry and live at Fulham with my son Ryan who is in year
11 and attends Tabor Christian College.
We very much enjoy our time out at the
markets. It’s a great opportunity to meet lots of interesting people with many
varied skills and talents.
Introducing:
Deborah Guise – SISA0254
How long have you been in SISLETS? I joined in June 2006.
Who are you? You
may have seen me at SISLETS markets. I’m
the one with the long red hair doing massage up on the stage.
Actually its TragerÒ
that I do at markets – its more convenient because the person on the massage
table can leave their clothes on.
LETS Activity My main LETS activity is healing therapies:
relaxation massage, TragerÒ and chakra balancing.
Why did you join SISLETS? I love receiving massage and find it
very beneficial, but like many people it seems a luxury to pay $$ for it when
you’re on a low income. As a healing
therapist I have found that I give far more sessions than I receive, and I want
to redress that imbalance somewhat. Of
course I’ve arranged my own direct swaps with other therapists in the past, but
LETS has advantages beyond this. For one
thing it gives me a larger pool of healing therapists I can call upon, so
there’ll be someone available when it suits me.
I’m getting to know more of the therapists within SISLETS, which is
great.
Work/Hobbies/Interests or anything else about yourself I live in the city, and love the vibrant
community of the Adelaide SouthWest Community Centre as well as being able to
walk to Central Market. (I no longer
need my car, so if you’d be interested in a cheap 1986 Magna please contact me
ASAP!) I’m about to start a 1 year
full-time course in Community Mediation.
That means I need to scale down the voluntary work I do for a Housing
Co-op. When I lived on Kangaroo Island I
set up and ran an Eco-Lodge. I have an
Honours degree in Philosophy and I love art & music festivals and life in
general.
